JDA signs agreement to save 7.3L energy units per year

Jaipur: Conservation of energy seems to be on Jaipur Development Authority (JDA)’s top agenda. After deciding to install roof top solar panel, the civic body has signed an agreement with Government of India, public sector undertaking (PSU) to replace existing electronic appliances with energy saving ones.

Under the Building Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP), the JDA will sign an agreement with ESSL. As per the agreement, JDA would save estimated energy of 7.3 lakh annually and total 35 lakh units in five years of agreement period. Moreover, the JDA would save total Rs 35 lakh over five years period of agreement after installation of star rated energy efficient electrical equipment and money would be paid after energy saving.

A JDA official said, “The JDA has taken measures to generate as well as save energy. The JDA will not have to pay any cost to replace the existing appliances with new ones. All the air-conditioners, fans, tube lights, pumps will be replaced by energy saving equipment.” With this BEEP program, JDA would bring down its carbon footprints further by saving 25 lakh CO2 units. “The present sanctioned load of JDA would reduce from 1250 KW to 750 KW.”

The JDA has also signed an agreement with REIL for installation of 730 KW grid connected solar project in JDA campus building, central park and Jawahar Circle. The agreement reads, “With solar generation, the annual energy bill would reduce to Rs 15 million, which is equal to 40% saving in annual energy bill.”

The consumption of electricity at JDA is approximately 1.5 lakh units per month. As per the calculation, 1 KW plate produces four units per day. With our solar set up, we would produce approximately 87,600 units and save Rs 6-8 lakh per month. “For 25 years of project life, estimated solar generation would be 24 million units and JDA would save 185 million after making payment to the developer,” says an official.

The plant will be set up under Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. “The JDA would pay the developer Rs 3.20 per solar unit generation on monthly basis. This payment would be done from energy bill saving being paid to Discom.”
