HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has announced Rs 1 lakh bonus as a Dasara gift to workers and employees of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a coal mining company jointly owned by the state and central governments.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said in the Assembly on Thursday that bonus was announced due to high profits earned by the company with the coordinated efforts by the workers and the management.
“In united AP in 2013-14, each SCCL worker was given Rs 13,540 bonus. In the last five years, the Telangana state government has been increasing the bonus gradually. In 2017-18, each worker was paid Rs 60,369 as part of the 27% profit shared with the workers. This year, the percentage of profit share increased by another 1% to 28%. Each worker will get Rs 1,00,899 bonus, Rs 40,530 more than last year’s bonus,” the CM said.
KCR said the coal production and performance of SCCL was improving every year. He said in 2013-14, SCCL was able to produce 50.47 million tonnes (MT) of coal, while in 2018-19, the coal production went up to record level of 64.41 MT. As a result of improved production, the profits of SCCL were also increasing every year.
He praised the SCCL workers, saying they were no less than army personnel working on the border.
“In 2018-19, SCCL had earned a profit of Rs 1,765 crore. The all-round development, including an increase in coal production, turnover and sales were possible due to state’s effective and good governance,” KCR added.
